XML datatype: Maximum allowed depth is 128 levels
Issue
When scanning a VMware system the error "XML datatype instance has too many levels of nested nodes. Maximum allowed depth is 128 levels." is seen when uploading the data to the XIA Configuration Server.
Cause
This error can occur when the VMware system being scanned has a virtual machine with a huge number of nested snapshots.
Resolution
Review the virtual machines in the VMware system and identify the virtual machine(s) with the large number of nested snapshot and identify and resolve the root cause of the issue.
More Information
- VMware recommends limiting the number of snapshots for a virtual machine due to the I/O and performance degradation.
- The issue in this example is the limit imposed by SQL Server to guarantee that an XML index for any XML column can be created.
- This issue does not affect XIA Configuration Express.
